I was holding Abbie the other day in the kitchen, just enjoying her cute little personality and I said to her, "How come you're growing so fast, I want you to be a baby again." And she said to me, "No, I wanna be a teenager!" I had to laugh because I remember how much I wanted to grow so fast and be older than I was, and now, I've finally reached the point where getting older isn't as fun anymore. HOWEVER, I do like to look at each birthday as a celebration that I was blessed to live one more year with my sweetheart, so from here on out, aging is a good thing, because every year is one extra year I get to spend with my sweetheart... and children. I'm very blessed.

My Journey Through Infertility
I remember like it was yesterday when I got married to Brad, I was young, innocent, naive, and completely... clueless. We went to go buy a house one day, the guy told us we couldn't because we had no credit. Like I knew what that meant. I just thought that you get married, you buy a house, you have a baby, he works, I stay home, raise babies, and some day we'll grow old and look back and say "Remember When." Marriage to me was the 'all solution' to every problem I had. It was the goal, not the beginning. It took me about a year and a half of complete cluelessness and bliss to realize that life had just begun... along with all our trials. I thought that since I had found the love of my life, everything else was "in the bag"... HA!
Some may look upon my life and think I've got it easy. But just like you, I have problems, I have trials, I have emotional breakdowns, and I have horrible life experiences I wish to never EVER experience again. We all have our fair share, some may have more than others, but its what we can handle, and I respect those with more than me as I know they are stronger than I.
Shortly after I had Abigail I couldn't shake the feeling that another child was waiting to come to our family. I always felt like our family was incomplete. We decided to start trying again pretty quickly since I knew it was to be. Four years later, I sit, in front of my computer, writing to you, hoping that I may touch someone, teach someone, or maybe just talk my feelings out. Who knows. 48 times we've tried. 48. 48 months of dissapointment, of failure, of hoping and being crushed.
If you haven't experienced this, maybe this will shed some light, if you have, you can understand: The first week starts with this incredible dissapointment, this feeling of failure, and complete loss of hope. Followed up by emotional roller coasters, physical pain (cramps, etc), and feeling like your broken. The next week and a half comes with hope and faith and a new desire to try again if you're lucky, sometimes its just a chore. I've only felt like its a chore about 3 months of the 48, so I'm good there. Then comes the week and a half of waiting and feeling those false pregnancy symptoms that get your hopes up and your faith built that for some reason or another, this month will be different than all the other months. And if your lucky, those pregnancy signs aren't there, your just late a few days to get your excitement really high. And then the vicious cycle starts all over again. And again... and again.
After about a year I started bargaining with the Lord. Saying, if I do this, then you'll give me a baby. Things like reading my scriptures every day, saying my prayers every day, etc etc, things I should be doing without any promises from the Lord. But you start with that, at least I did. Then you try the "I'm not trying" because everyone says when you stop trying is when you'll get pregnant. But that never works because when you want a baby, you never stop trying deep inside, your mind is always on it.
So after that doesn't work, you rotate between the anger, the yearning, the sadness, the denial, the hope, the failure.
After 3 years I looked back and said, well, I'm glad it didn't happen when I wanted it to because that would've been hard to have a baby then, but now is a great time to get pregnant, good things are ahead and we're READY, finally, we're READY. AND... the cycle starts (literally I guess :) ) And a year later from that I thought I finally came to grips with it all. Last night I prayed since I was 2 days late and said, "I hope that I am, but if I'm not, that's okay. I know you have a plan." I thought I really felt that way. Then this morning the disappointment came in all its glory around 9:00 and I just broke down! I thought I would be fine. Guess not.
So I called a good friend of mine who has experienced infertility for ten years before being blessed with her fourth. (3 kids born, then 10 years of infertility, now she's pregnant with her 5th). She reminded me of some things I've learned about other aspects of our life, but never thought to apply to this situation in particular.
Sometimes we are like a two year old. We want something so bad, we think it should be ours, we ask for it and don't get it. We ask nicely, we don't get it. We try to take it, but no luck. We beg for it, promise anything for it, and no luck. So we throw a tantrum, we kick and scream, and cry, and all we're doing is hurting ourselves. As the patient Lord watches us with a pitiful smile and knows what is best for us, he waits for us to calm down and submit, and say with a sigh, "Okay, you know whats best for me, I don't have to have it." Whether its just a matter of timing, or whether it is something that we shouldn't have that we think we should, our knowledge is that of a two year old compared to him. And we just need to submit.
The other thing she said, was that faith is sometimes misunderstood. Faith isn't just believing and hoping and thinking good thoughts about something until it comes to pass. Faith is believing and hoping but most of all, having our will coincide with the Lords. We can think and hope and believe all we want, but if the Lord has a different plan, his will overrides any thoughts we have. So if we want something to work, our will has to be inline with the Lords. And THAT'S when we can be happy and never fail, when what we want is what the Lord wants for us.
So, it could be another year, or maybe five, or maybe ten years before we have another baby. It could be that we only end up with two children. Only the Lord knows. It certainly is not a trial I wish on anyone to experience. Its hard to see friends and family get pregnant with the blink of an eye, or long time friends who've experienced just this finally get their moment. Its hard because I'm so happy for them. I truly and genuinely am happy for them. But its hard because I want to share in that joy, and experience it right along side of them. I wish so bad I could have that in common with them, that womanly bonding of calling on the phone and sharing symptoms and pregnancy pains and woes and stories. But I suppose its not meant to be, at least for now. And that's okay. Because the Lord has a plan, and I know the Lord doesn't find joy in my suffering. He's suffering right along side with me. He wants me to be happy, and somehow, in some way, unbeknownst to me, I'll have greater joy.

Our New Castle
We got rid of the slide since it took up so much room and the girls didn't use it a whole lot, Brad got a little excited about the curvature and it was a pretty fast slide... SO I thought it would be cool to attach a rock wall onto their bunkbeds. My wonderful mother in law, Donnamay was in town and she helped design this incredible castle, check it out!!! The left tower covers the ladder so they go into the tower to go up the ladder, and then they can climb the wall to go up as well.

Minnie Mouse
Well, we are finally moved. What a relief. I hate moving. Seriously, this is move number 17 I believe in our 7 1/2 years of marriage. And Brad isn't even in the army! You'd think by now that I'd be used to it and it'd be no big deal, but holy cow, I'm SO DONE! We finally got a house that we can grow into rather than out of, so I'm very grateful that I don't think we'll be moving in a year, (cross our fingers) I think we'll be here for a while. Tori's school is going so well for her, she loves it, and we really love the house and the area... so, onto the story of Minnie Mouse.
The girls got Mouse Trap for Christmas from Grandma (Donnamay) and I haven't played that game for like 20 years, holy cow, I used to love that game! I remember how fun it was putting it together and we could put it together in like 3 minutes flat. Well, we got it out and I started trying to piece it together and after about 30 minutes of trying to figure out the directions and look on the box for the picture, I could NOT figure it out! I was quite dissapointed and felt like this must be a true sign of aging. We realized upon the excitement of opening the game up as a gift, the girls were taking the pieces apart from the plastic pieces that were garbage and they forgot the all important blue straight piece that pushes up the hand onto the diving board which makes the ball fall on the teetertotter thingy which catapults the diving man into the bowl which makes the big red trap fall on the mice. SO... we had to dig through the garbage to find that little piece to make it all work. I'm guessing it'll just be a matter of 2 times playing the game before we lose another all important piece, but we'll see.
So... back onto the story. After a long days work of cleaning out our old apartment we came back and made some of those yummy fajitas by Tyson in the bag that are only $5.00 (if you haven't tried them, I highly recommend them)and as we are enjoying our meal, Dennis, Brad's Uncle who is here helping us move saw a mouse scurry from our bedroom to the living room and back into the bedroom. We are in a new home, new construction, and I of course put my legs up on my chair and started breathing quite rapidly (no screaming or squeeling at all thank you) while the boys did their boy thing. They went into our bedroom with a pair of gloves.
Now, as a sidenote, I have quite a vast amount experience under my belt with catching mice. I used to catch at least 1 a week, although those were shrews, but in my old big house by Pleasant Valley School, we got those all the time, the cat would bring them in half dead, they'd revive themselves, and multiply of course. SO... back onto the story.
While they were walking into my room with gloves I told Brad, "you're going to want a bowl, you can't catch a mouse with gloves, they're too fast!" He kinda blew me of like, whatever, I'm a man, and went on the hunt. They looked around to find it, Brad and Dennis, and had no luck, so Brad came back out to finish his dinner in the dining room. A few minutes later, Dennis yells, "BRAD!" So Brad rushes in there, and they continue on their hunt. Well, long story a little less long, after a few chases and pounces and dropping it onto my bed (Yeah, I know, yuk!) they finally got a hold of it, with their gloves, NO BOWL!
So, in the midst of the chase in the beginning, Abbie ran in there and got in the middle of it all, and Brad had to carry her out so they wouldn't run into her and of course he wasn't happy she was in there, and she wasn't happy she wasn't, so she started crying pretty hard. I held her on the couch and tried to distract her but she kept saying, "I wanna see the mouse!" So I decided we should name it. I said, "do you think its a boy or a girl?" She stopped the histaria and said, "A girl." I said, do you think we should name it Minnie?" And she agreed. SO, we put it in a tupperwear which I threw out because I couldn't bring myself to use it again, sorry Mom (it was yours before), but Abbie was so excited to see Minnie and feed her and water her and then we tried to wake Tori up who had fallen asleep hours ago, but she wouldn't wake up at all, so she'll be all mad tomorrow, but it was quite the excitement at the Brockbanks tonight with Minnie Mouse.
So tying in the story of Mouse Trap, Abbie had gone upstairs and gotten the red trap thingy from the game of Mouse Trap for Dennis to catch the mouse with and I thought it was so hilarious that she wanted him to use it. Since she wasn't in there, she left it in there for him and afterwards she picked it up and went to Dennis and said, "Did you use the Mouse trap?" He laughed and kindly lied, "Of course I trapped the mouse with that!" And she was so pleased. And so there you go. I was so mad I didn't think to take a picture of it so I could put it on here until Brad had already let it go and I was like "NO! That was blogworthy, and I have NO PROOF!"

Santa Saga Part II
READ PART I FIRST!!!
So it was worth all the lies. Tori is one of the biggest believers out there I think. She said, "I didn't think it was going to be a good Christmas this year, but now its the BEST CHRISTMAS of all time!"
She was VERY pleased with the presents and gifts and quite dissapointed in Santa for the Bratz gift. LOL.
So after the gift opening, Brad tells the girls we need to go give a gift to someone who is really in need (family tradition) and Tori says, "Daddy, I'm going to give my Bratz toy to Olive. (her friend from church)" I thought that was hilarious, she said she didn't want it, and she could give it to someone else. I assured her that Olive had plenty of toys for Christmas.
Last night Brad told the girls that an elf would come with Santa to wrap the presents while they were sleeping. I did such a poor job wrapping, I thought it was hilarious. Brad said that Tori would say that Santa's elves are bad gift wrappers. So this morning Tori says, "Santa's elf is not that good of a wrapper." I laughed quietly and went and told Brad who was in our room at the time. Do we know her well or what!?!
So anyway, the girls are pleased, and I'm totally stoked that we spent about $100 total this year for Christmas, and the girls are completely satisfied. PHEW! We pulled it off!
